What are the top cybersecurity threats and hiring trends to watch? 👩🏻💻💡
I recently went through CompTIA’s State of Cybersecurity report for 2024 and I think it’s a great read for anyone working or looking to start their career in cybersecurity.
Here are a few things that stood out to me:
1. The 3 biggest things companies are concerned about are: the growing number of hackers/cybercriminals, privacy concerns handling other people’s data, and generative AI. 🤖
2. Risk management is the driving force behind cybersecurity. The top items included in the risk analysis of companies surveyed were technology procurement/shadow IT, the use of cloud computing, and the classification/prioritization of data.
3. A super interesting stat: the primary people involved in risk management discussions were technology staff (40%), CEOs (36%), and mid-level tech managers (33%). CIOs (19%) and CISOs (19%) were closer to the bottom of this list. 💻
4. The top challenges to cybersecurity initiatives moving forward? - Cybersecurity skill gaps among internal employees and the belief that current security is “good enough” with the prioritization of other technology initiatives.
5. Among the companies surveyed, the number of non-college hires with demonstration of knowledge increased from 23% in 2022 to 35% in 2023. This likely accounts for bootcamp hires and self-taught individuals, which is a great sign that companies are becoming more flexible in their hiring practices. 👨💻
