The Hidden Reason You're Not Landing Cybersecurity Jobs 👩🏻‍💻

Are you doing these 3 things to increase your chances of getting hired?

I've heard from many of you who, even with your CompTIA Security+ cert and doing everything you can to stand out, are still finding it tough to break into cybersecurity.

Trust me, I've been there!

Here's the real issue:

Relying only on technical skills isn't enough anymore.

Cybersecurity interviews aren’t just about what you know.

They focus on how you apply your knowledge to solve real-world problems.

The key to standing out is showing how competent you are at problem-solving, even when it comes to security issues or topics you haven’t seen before.

So, what can you do? Get these 3 foundations down:

  • Get 3 STRONG technical cybersecurity projects on your resume

  • Get 1-2 beginner cybersecurity certs under your belt

  • Apply to 50-100 jobs per week and tweak your resume as you go

Here are a few strategies that will help you shine:

1. Share real examples of your problem-solving skills.

For example: "In my last cybersecurity project, I learned how to use network monitoring tools to look for suspicious traffic and how to dig into networking logs.

2. Highlight your teamwork abilities.

For example: "I participated with my CTF team in Capture The Flag competitions on platforms like TryHackMe to stay updated on the latest vulnerabilities and hacking challenges.

3. Show that you're always learning.

For example: "’I’ve always been interested in reverse engineering, so I recently created my own at-home malware analysis lab as well as learn how to use the most popular reverse engineering tools on my own.

You get the idea, you've got this! 💪

Best,

Sandra

P.S. Remember, landing your dream job isn’t just about what you know, it’s about how you communicate and apply it. Keep honing your skills, stay curious, and don’t hesitate to step out of your comfort zone. Your dream cybersecurity job is within reach! 🌟
