Here are 4 Cybersecurity Labs to Get Real Experience

How to get real-world cybersecurity experience without a job 👩🏻‍💻

Three years ago, I was this close to abandoning my dream of landing a cybersecurity role.

I’d fired off more resumes than I could count, spent half my nights scrolling through job boards, and even tried talking my cat into giving me career advice (don’t judge).

But in the end, it all felt like shouting into the void. I was stuck. I was invisible.

Then, I hit a realization.

I could get the cybersecurity experience I needed through my own technical projects, not just through work experience.

And that’s exactly what I focused on.

So, here are 4 ways to get real-world cybersecurity experience without a job 👩🏻‍💻

Trying to get cybersecurity experience but don’t have work experience? I got you!

Free access to advanced malware labs, training on how attackers hijack websites, and ransomware labs.

Real-world cybersecurity job simulations from big companies like PwC, Datacom, Mastercard, and many more!

One of the best ways to break into cyber is starting in IT first. I always recommend Josh Madakor’s IT Course (hands-on IT training).

Hacking games and labs to learn cybersecurity concepts (also free!)

BONUS - Get experience in alternative tech jobs 💪

My first tech job was in a computer repair shop. Starting out in retail tech, IT/computer shops, or any tech-adjacent job is a GREAT way to get technical experience.

I’d also recommend the Google Cybersecurity Certification for complete beginners.

But while we’re on the topic.. Will AI Replace Cybersecurity Professionals? If so, when?

This has been a hot topic for a while now and I wanted to share my thoughts and insights given all the new advancements in AI (latest YT video here) 👀

Happy learning this week. You got this!!

Best,
